Dr. John R. Balmes

Dr. Balmes is Professor of Medicine at UCSF and Professor of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley. He is an Attending Physician in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital. Dr. Balmes has been studying the effects of exposures to occupational agents and air pollution on respiratory, cardiovascular and metabolic health for 38 years. He has been collaborating on studies of household and outdoor air pollution in Africa for the past 7 years. Dr. Balmes has been serving as the Physician Member of the California Air Resources Board since 2008.
